Duepuntotre Srl has been awarded the conservation works on the monumental garden and fountains of Palazzo Spada, in the heart of Rome: a prestigious commission in one of the landmarks of Roman Baroque.
The palace was built between 1548 and 1550 at the behest of Cardinal Girolamo Capodiferro. It later became the property of Cardinal Bernardino Spada, who wished to house his collection of paintings there, and was renovated by Francesco Borromini. Borromini created the famous Perspective Gallery (1652-1653), whose refined optical illusion makes it appear far deeper than its actual 9 metres.
Today the palace houses the Galleria Spada, a collection assembled between the 17th and 18th centuries by Cardinals Bernardino and Fabrizio Spada, which retains the character of a princely gallery: works by Guido Reni, Titian and Orazio Gentileschi alternate with ancient statues and period furniture. The Hall of Pompey, decorated in 1635 by the Bolognese painters Agostino Mitelli and Michelangelo Colonna, also hosts the sessions of the Council of State.
This new commission adds to Duepuntotre Srl’s work on historic and artistic heritage, such as the recent restoration of the Church of S. Maria in Cartecchio in Teramo.
